Neon Portals
Branding & web design
Neon Portals is a music publication on Substack and a passion project born out of a desire to find meaning in life through the lens of music. As it grows, I imagine it evolving into a multimedia platform that brings together diverse writers, storytellers, and creators, all drawn to the question of what the music of our time reveals about us.
Drawing inspiration from classical art as well as pixel art and cybercore, the brand identity frames music as a portal between the past and the future. It is as old as we are, and will continue to echo far beyond us.

04 social
Neon Portals’ social graphics draw on classical artworks such as “Dance” by Henri Matisse and “Crescent Lady” by Warren B. Davis. Reimagined in luminous shades of neon, these figures convey a playful, modern existentialism.

04 web design
Here, Neon Portals is envisioned as a multimedia platform for essays, videos, interviews, and podcasts. The prototype (shown here in mobile view and below in desktop) was designed with motion and flow in mind. For instance, the menu on the homepage rotates like a vinyl record, echoing the rhythms of the music that animates the site.
04 midnight color palette
The platform shifts between the “daylight” and “midnight” color palettes depending on what time of day people visit the site. As it moves from one palette to the other, the website mirrors the passage of time and the subtle shifts in mood as day turns into night.
04 risograph prints
These posters were printed via risograph, capturing the vibrance of the colors, the texture of the graphics, and the retrofuturistic aesthetic of the brand.
